ATLANTA (March 12, 2018) – The Trust Company of Georgia Northeast Freeway Branch, colloquially known by many as the “round bank,” has been listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The property is located at 2160 Monroe Drive NE in Atlanta. The property owners, Broward Pie Bar, LLC, sponsored the nomination.

Constructed in 1962, the Trust Company of Georgia Northeast Freeway Branch is an iconic representative of Modernism in Atlanta. According to the National Register of Historic Places nomination for the property, it is significant for its association with commercial banking trends and mid-20th century commercial development in Atlanta, and as an excellent intact example of the New Formalism style of architecture. Designed by celebrated Atlanta architect Henri Jova, who was then Chief of Design for the Atlanta architectural firm of Abreu & Robeson, the building is representative of the banking industry’s evolution to embrace Modern architecture during the mid-20th century as one means of building a progressive corporate image. The building operated as a bank until 2000, when it was vacated. The building was subsequently named one of Atlanta’s most endangered historic resources by the Atlanta Preservation Center in 2003. In 2005, the building was rehabilitated into Piebar, a pizza restaurant. Today, the building houses Cirque Daiquiri Bar and Grill.
