Neighborhoods Join Forces to Present Atlanta City Council District 6 Candidates’ Forum MLPA, PHCA, & VHCA Offer Chance to Meet and Hear from Candidates, Tuesday, September 19th at 7:00 PM, Rock Spring Presbyterian Church, 1824 Piedmont Avenue, NE, Atlanta, GA 30324 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, DATE, Atlanta, GA—While opportunities to hear from the Mayoral candidates abound, three Atlanta neighborhoods have teamed up to present a forum of candidates for Atlanta City Council District 6 this September. Morningside Lenox Park Association (MLPA), Piedmont Heights Civic Association (PHCA), and Virginia Highland Civic Association (VHCA) are inviting all District 6 neighbors to hear from the candidates for the seat currently occupied by Alex Wan. Wan will vacate the position after the November election where he is running for City Council President. The gathering, scheduled for Tuesday, September 19th at 7 PM will be held in the historic Rock Spring Presbyterian Church at 1824 Piedmont Road NE. As far as we know, this is the only event currently scheduled to give neighbors a chance to hear from all the 6th District Candidates. The discussion will be moderated by Tom Baxter, retired AJC Political Editor, contributor to the Saporta Report, and Atlanta District 6 resident. Baxter will give the candidates an opportunity to make opening statements—he will then pose questions to solicit each candidate’s position on issues important to neighborhoods. All three of the announced candidates including Tracey Austin, Jennifer Ide, and Kirk Rich have committed to attend. Lock Whiteside had announced his intention to run but withdrew in late May. If more candidates join the race, an invitation to include them will be extended. It is important for neighbors to learn how each of the candidates will approach the challenges Atlanta will face over the next few years. This is the perfect opportunity to learn more about the people who are running to represent our neighborhoods prior to the November election.
