Cheshire Bridge Updates

Thanks to Councilmember Alex Wan for providing these Cheshire Bridge updates and other construction updates on our monthly PiHi call on Tuesday:

  • Bridge can be repaired; it doesn't have to be totally rebuilt (like last time). Approx 10 weeks to complete. Procurement is all done - funding is ready, contractor has been identified. Exact start date TBD but soon.

  • Encampments under this area were cleared out last Friday.

  • Commitment from Mayor's office to clear out other encampments and keep City infrastructure areas secured using very heavy duty fencing. GDOT and other entities are also in the conversation, as they also play a role in Atlanta's infrastructure.

  • On a related note, City Departments recommend that you DO NOT PROVIDE PROPANE TANKS to the homeless. Propane tanks contribute to fires getting out of control and causing catastrophic damage. Help in other ways but not with propane tanks, please.

  • Speaking of construction – Later this year, the Monroe Drive Complete Streets project should get underway. Firmer timeframe TBD, but probably after the BeltLine section in that area is complete, so late summer or fall.

City Hearing Regarding Tokyo Valentino

The Tokyo Valentino hearing has been moved from Thursday, January 4, to February 8.

In the meantime, read more about this important issue and consider signing the petition from Morningside.

Bagel History in PiHi

National Bagel Day is Jan. 15 - go visit Brooklyn Bagel for the real deal.

AND – years before Brooklyn Bagel, PiHi was home to the beloved Royal Bagel, owned and operated by Michael, Kenny (pictured left) and Rose Yoss for more than 20 years! Learn more about the storied history of Royal Bagel on the PHCA website (and a huge Thank You to Michael Yoss for sharing his family's photos and business history with us!).

Public Safety Reminders

911 via Text

Instead of calling 911, you can now text 911. Simply put ‘911’ in the ‘To’ or ‘Recipient’ field. Be brief and include the address.

Texting 911 is recommended for non-emergency situations.

Security Cameras

You can register your residential or business video cameras/security cameras with APD.

Perfect if you have a Ring doorbell, Arlo camera, etc. Online registration of your camera does NOT allow APD to view a live feed, nor will it give them automatic access of your video footage.

Online registration helps APD create a network of camera owners to whom they can push out requests for video when there's a specific geographical area of interest.

PiHi Master Plan Refresh in the Works

We look forward to sharing more info soon on how the Master Plan refresh is going. In the meantime, thanks to Petro Kacur for sharing these photos from the last steering committee meeting and for providing the meeting space at Indie Studios!

Thanks to Sachi from Nakato for providing delicious food for the group!
